Mediation is generally less costly than conducting a negotiation through lawyers. First of all, two parties are sharing one mediator’s fee. Secondly, mediation hourly rates are often lower than the rates of lawyers with comparable years’ experience. And the mediation process is often a faster one because the parties are focusing on solving problems rather than building a case against each other. Introductory, individual meetings with parties in family mediation cases are charged at a flat rate of one hour’s time, although the meeting usually lasts one and half hours.
There is no charge for introductory telephone calls or for brief telephone calls, brief e-mails, or scheduling appointments during the mediation process. Fees for drafting documents are negotiated at the time of drafting and will vary depending on the length and complexity of the document.
Fees for Service
Civil Mediation Rates begin at $350.00 per hour based on the mediator and complexity of your case shared by both parties. Items that will affect the cost of your case are the amount of time and details involved. You can expect a retainer based on estimated time plus financials (if needed) and background work to prepare your memorandum for final presentation and sign off.
